THE TALKING TWIN by Sunsampaul Egwu

Many years ago in the village of Echene, babies were able to talk as
soon as they were born. This made it very easy for their mothers to
look after them whenever they felt uncomfortable in any way.

These babies were not wise and so they talked about anything they saw.
If a man with one eye comes to the house, a baby would say "go away
one eyed man" their mothers always had to apologize for these rude
remarks. This made Onwucha the king very angry as many complaints that
were brought to him concerning this talking babies. Some elders said
during their generation they didn't talk, why are babies now talking
in this generation. The king then decided to summon the eye of the
gods who eventually consulted the gods who then decided to make babies
dumb until they were old enough  to talk.

Subsequent years, babies that were born remained dumb until they're
old enough to talk. This happened for 20 years until Mazi Uloko's wife
gave birth to twin that were talking. These babies were not only
talking but were wise and smart. They were born with complete adult
teeth that made most of the villagers perplexed.

One day the king summoned the parent of the twin. He said "This twin
are not human, they don't only talk but came to this world with adult
teeth, they even talk like adults not babies. Such thing is strange
and a curse to our generation, so they must die." The parent pleaded,
cried and cried for the king to spare their lives for the twin happens
to be their only issue after 28 years of marriage, but the king
vehemently refused.

The subsequent day, the king sent his guards to go fetch the twin he
labelled to be evil. When they got there, the twin began to talk. They
narrated the life history of the guards and how their fathers lost
their lives. This made the guards speechless and weak to grab them to
the king. They foolishly went back to the king who got angry and went
to were the twin live. On getting there the twin began to reveal and
narrate the evil the king did. How he killed his senior brother who
happens to be the true heir to the thrown, to become the king, how he
also killed his wife who caught him while he was raping a Virgin who
happens to be a maid in the palace. As all these were said, crowd
gathered in despair and astonishments.

After the twin finished narrating the evil the king has done, the king
became speechless, he drew a sword from one of his guard's sheath to
strike one of the twin in anger but the sword and his hand froze due
to the power in the eyes of the twin that were very active and
protective.

The multitude that clustered when the secret of the king was narrated
by the twin, spat at the king, stripped him of his fine linen and
removed the crown and royal beads from him after which they moved him
to the market square naked where he'll be burnt to aches as the
penalty for any murderer as tradition demands.

Two weeks after the horrible disgrace and death of the king. villagers
never seize to bring gift for the twn bless them and reveal things to
them. This made the family of Mazi Uloko to be well respected and the
council of elders decided to crown him king of the kingdom which was
done and all the villagers became happy.

THE HARD TIMES by Sunsampaul Egwu

There once lived a man called Okafor. He was a strong hunter, who
subsisted on what ever he realized from selling the animals he killed
after hunting.

Okafor had only one son, called Ifeanyi who followed him to hunt
in the forest. Ifeanyi was determined to be a strong hunter like his
father. So he always practice with his father's hunting tools, gun,
arrows and the likes. Ifeanyi was only 12 years old when he started
hunting with his father.

"Father," Ifeanyi called. "What would it take for me to be more
stronger than you"? "My son I always wanted you to be stronger than me
and be wiser than me, I'm delighted you asked, now you must practice
harder, be peaceful, smart and fearless, above all be prayerful" his
father replied.

Since Okafor's wife had died of a snake bite 10 years ago,
Okafor had sworn never to allow any thing happen to his son Ifeanyi,
he promised to be his protector and provider as God will be the
ultimate protector and provider of him and his son Ifeanyi.

After many years, Okafor became feeble and aged to continue
hunting, he confined in his son of his inability to continue hunting.
Okafor had before now armed Ifeanyi, his son with every paraphernalia
needed to be a strong hunter even stronger than himself.

There was a fearful forest in the village  on which no hunter
has entered for fear of being devoured by wild animals whom were said
to be inhabitants of the forest. After Ifeanyi had bad days coupled
with starvation that struck him and his father. He decided to go
hunting. On his way he couldn't find any animals to hunt and none was
caught in his traps. He reasoned to himself to go into the fearful
forest perhaps he may be lucky to return with big Grass-cutter.

Ifeanyi who is now 18 years of age, eventually concluded and
headed for the fearful forest. On getting there, he missed his way and
spent hours in the forest after which he was been chased by a Lion
that later killed him, devoured his legs, heart and eyes, leaving
other parts untouched. His father who didn't know that his son had
left the ordinary forests for the fearful forest was busy
contemplating what might have happened to his only beloved son,
Ifeanyi.

Two days later, a hunter who mistakenly chased a Deer into the same
fearful forest, found Ifeanyi's corpse already smelling with Vultures
feasting on it. He quickly ran to summon his weak father who
vehemently followed him to the Forest's path. The man with the aid of
some warriors wrapped Ifeanyi's corpse and carried it out to the
Forest's path for his father to see. The weak Okafor who was already
ill, collapsed  after seeing his only beloved son breathless, smelling
and dead.

KALU AND THE BEAUTIFUL WITCH by Sunsampaul Egwu

On a very busy day after the heavy downpour in Umuze village,
Kalu,  a poor hunter had no food to feed his family. Even the animals
in the bush who were all busy searching for their preys to feast on
had ran to their hideout. Kalu wanted meat for his family, it has been
3 weeks since his sophisticated traps caught any animal.

After much thinking, Kalu headed for the bush the next morning.
He left with him, two water bottles, his hunting bag, traps, weapons,
and few other things. He said to himself,
"I must go home with two animals for feasting and sale, I can't be a
hunter and be starving." He expressed so much enthusiasm.

Nine hours past, Kalu didn't see any animal neither did his
sophisticated traps catch any. He's the only hunter in the village who
has five traps that are refined, yet he remained poor for being
unfortunate. He became worried and went further in the bush. It was
getter darker but Kalu still insisted he must wait till he get two
animals for sale and feasting because it has been long he tasted meat.

As Kalu moved further in the already dark bush surrounded by the
hissing sounds of night insects and unseen snakes, he came across a
beautiful lady whose eyes were dazzling and stunning, but she was in
black linen gown. Kalu who's already a fearless hunter asked her who
she was, but she shouted at him. "Will you not go home and let us have
our meeting in peace." Kalu was astonished, he didn't know what
meeting she meant.

The lady then said to him "I am a witch whose teeth devour human
flesh, who is always drunk to stupor on by human blood". She said all
these to scare Kalu away, but Kalu being fearless said to her " I am
Kalu the fearless hunter who's poor even though with sophisticated
traps, whose voice can't be seized, and whose accent is so innocent
like that of a decent saint."

This exchange of words and personal praises continued until the
lady began to fall in love with Kalu's accent that sounded like decent
saint and that of a Fulani cowboy.

     She was confused.
"what do you want here, tell me and it shall be done." She said this
because her eye charm she used to charmed Kalu in order for him to die
failed. Kalu answered " I am here to get two animals for my family and
for sale, I'm poor and haven't tasted meat for 3 weeks." Before Kalu
would finish saying the last word, a life deer and a grass-cutter
appeared behind him. He turned and saw the animals, he shot them dead
and thanked the beautiful witch after which he went home happily with
the deer and the grass-cutter.
